What's a "provisional ballot"?
A provisional ballot is the same as a regular ballot, except it isn’t counted until we determine you’re eligibility to vote. You may be asked to cast a provisional ballot if:
- Your name is not in the voting roster;
- You’re listed as a Vote-by-Mail voter, but cannot surrender your Vote-by-Mail ballot;
- You’ve had a change of address;
you will be asked to provide either a California Driver’s License number or a California Identification Card number. If you don’t have a California Driver’s License number or Identification card number you will still be allowed to vote.
